Abstract The improved Resistive Plate Chambers (iRPC) are designed using thin low resistivity High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) gaps. They are proposed to equip the very forward region of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector, as they can stand rates∼ 2 kHz/cm 2. To withstand 3 times higher rates than the installed CMS RPC chambers, the HPL electrode thickness was reduced from 2 mm to 1.4 mm. The gas gain of the detector is dependent on the gas pressure and temperature which requires correcting for the applied voltage to keep detector operational characteristics such as efficiency, cluster size and noise rate constant. Herein, we study the pressure correction at constant temperature for CMS iRPC and compare its correction coefficient with the one for the 2 mm RPC gap technology. Pressure correction parameters for both technologies are found compatible.

In view of the High Luminosity LHC, the CMS Muon system will be upgraded to sustain its efficient muon triggering and reconstruction performance. Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) are dedicated detectors for muon triggering due to their excellent timing resolution. The RPC system will be extended up to 2.4 in pseudorapidity. Before the LHC Long Shutdown 3, new RE3/1 and RE4/1 stations of the forward Muon system will be equipped with improved Resistive Plate Chambers (iRPC) having, compared to the present RPC system, a different design and geometry and 2D strip readout. This advanced iRPC geometry configuration allows the rate capability to improve and hence survive the harsh background conditions during the HL-LHC phase. Several iRPC demonstrator chambers were installed in CMS during the recently completed 2nd Long Shutdown to study the detector behaviour under real LHC conditions …

A dark leptophilic scalar (ϕ L) is a hypothetical particle that couples only to leptons rather than quarks. We report on a search for ϕ L in the e+ e−→ τ+ τ− ϕ L, ϕ L→ ℓ+ ℓ−(ℓ= e, μ) process using 626 fb− 1 of data collected by the Belle experiment near the ϒ (4 S) resonance. We validate the backgrounds with multiple control regions in data, using a novel multiclass multivariate event classifier. In absence of a signal, we quote upper limits at the 90% confidence level on the coupling between ϕ L and leptons. Our bounds, obtained in a blinded approach, are 19% more constraining than the previous limits, averaged over the mass range 0.04≤ m ϕ L≤ 6.5 GeV. We exclude the parameter space below 4 GeV favored by measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.

We perform an angular analysis of the decay for the dielectron mass squared, , range of to using the full Belle data set in the and channels, incorporating new methods of electron identification to improve the statistical power of the data set. This analysis is sensitive to contributions from right-handed currents from physics beyond the Standard Model by constraining the Wilson coefficients . We perform a fit to the differential decay rate and measure the imaginary component of the transversality amplitude to be , and the transverse asymmetry to be . The resulting constraints on the value of are consistent with the Standard Model within a confidence interval.

We report measurements of the branching fractions and direct C P asymmetries of the decays B 0→ K+ π−, B+→ K+ π 0, B+→ K 0 π+, and B 0→ K 0 π 0, and use these for testing the standard model through an isospin-based sum rule. In addition, we measure the branching fraction and direct C P asymmetry of the decay B+→ π+ π 0 and the branching fraction of the decay B 0→ π+ π−. The data are collected with the b elle II detector from e+ e− collisions at the ϒ (4 S) resonance produced by the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy collider and contain 387× 10 6 bottom-antibottom meson pairs. Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain− 0.03±0.13±0.04 for the sum rule in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

We report the results of the first search for decays to the final state using 711~ of data collected at the resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy collider. The results are interpreted in terms of both direct baryon-number-violating decay and oscillations which follow the Standard Model decay . We observe no evidence for baryon number violation and set the 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the ratio of baryon-number-violating and Standard Model branching fractions to be and on the oscillation angular frequency to be (equivalent to ~ps).

We have analyzed 121.4 fb− 1 of data collected at the ϒ (5 S) resonance by the Belle experiment using the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e− collider to search for the decay B s 0→ J/ψ π 0. We observe no signal and report an upper limit on the branching fraction B (B s 0→ J/ψ π 0) of 1.21× 10− 5 at 90% confidence level. This result is the most stringent, improving the previous bound by 2 orders of magnitude.

We report a search for a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) that mixes predominantly with . The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the and resonances and has an integrated luminosity of , corresponding to events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted ) in the decay followed by its decay via . The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long lived, so that the originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. We report limits on the mixing parameter of the HNL with the neutrino as a function of the HNL mass.

Using the data samples of 102 million and 158 million events collected by the Belle detector, we search for a pentaquark state in the final state from inclusive decays. Here, the charge-conjugate is included. We observe clear production in decays and measure the branching fractions to be $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(1S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [4.27 \pm 0.16(stat.) \pm 0.20(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(2S) \to pJ/\psi + anything] = [3.59 \pm 0.14(stat.) \pm 0.16(syst.)] \times 10^{-5}$. We also measure the cross section of inclusive production in annihilation to be $\sigma(e^+e^- \to pJ/\psi + anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at using an 89.5~fb continuum data sample. There is no significant , or signal found in the final states in inclusive decays. We determine the upper limits of $\mathcal{B}[\Upsilon(1,2S)\to P_c^{+} + anything] \cdot \mathcal{B}(P_c^{+}\to pJ/\psi)$ to be at the level.

We search for the baryon and lepton number violating charm decays, D→ p ℓ, where D is either a D 0 or a D 0 and ℓ is a muon or an electron, using a data sample of 921 fb− 1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e− collider. In the absence of significant signals, we set upper limits on the branching fractions in the range (5–8)× 10− 7 at a 90% confidence level, depending on the decay mode.

We present a search for the lepton flavor violating decays B+→ K+ τ±ℓ∓, with ℓ=(e, μ), using the full data sample of 772× 106 BBpairs recorded by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e-collider. We use events in which one B meson is fully reconstructed in a hadronic decay mode. We find no evidence for B±→ K±τℓ decays and set upper limits on their branching fractions at the 90% confidence level in the (1-3)× 10-5 range. The obtained limits are the world's best results.

Using the entire data sample of 980 fb-1 collected at or near the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector operating at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider, we report the measurement of the mass, width, and the branching ratios of the Λc(2625)+ charmed baryon. The mass difference between Λc(2625)+ and Λc+ is measured to be M(Λc(2625)+)-M(Λc+)=341.518±0.006±0.049 MeV/c2. The upper limit on the width is measured to be Γ(Λc(2625)+)<0.52 MeV/c2 at 90% confidence level. Based on a full Dalitz plot fit, branching ratios with respect to the mode Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π- are measured to be B(Λc(2625)+→ςc0π+)B(Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π-)=(5.19±0.23±0.40)% and B(Λc(2625)+→ςc++π-)B(Λc(2625)+→Λc+π+π-)=(5.13±0.26±0.32)%, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. These measurements can be used to further constrain the parameters of the underlying theoretical models. © 2023 authors. Published by the American Physical Society. We report a study of Λ c+→ Σ+ π 0, Λ c+→ Σ+ η, and Λ c+→ Σ+ η′ using the data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 980 fb− 1 collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e− collider. The branching fractions relative to Λ c+→ Σ+ π 0 are measured as B Λ c+→ Σ+ η/B Λ c+→ Σ+ π 0= 0.25±0.03±0.01 and B Λ c+→ Σ+ η′/B Λ c+→ Σ+ π 0= 0.33±0.06±0.02. Using B Λ c+→ Σ+ π 0=(1.25±0.10)%, we obtain B Λ c+→ Σ+ η=(3.14±0.35±0.17±0.25)× 10− 3 and B Λ c+→ Σ+ η′=(4.16±0.75±0.25±0.33)× 10− 3. We measure the branching fraction for the Cabibbo-suppressed decay D 0→ K S 0 K S 0 π+ π− and search for C P violation via a measurement of the C P asymmetry A C P as well as the T-odd triple-product asymmetry a C P T. We use 922 fb− 1 of data recorded by the Belle experiment, which ran at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+ e− collider. The branching fraction is measured relative to the Cabibbo-favored normalization channel D 0→ K S 0 π+ π−; the result is B (D 0→ K S 0 K S 0 π+ π−)=[4.79±0.08 (stat)±0.10 (syst)±0.31 (norm)]× 10− 4, where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third is from uncertainty in the normalization channel. We also measure A C P=[− 2.51±1.44 (stat)− 0.10+ 0.11 (syst)]%, and a C P T=[− 1.95±1.42 (stat)− 0.12+ 0.14 (syst)]%. These results show no evidence of C P violation.

An absolute measurement of the Λ c+ lifetime is reported using Λ c+→ p K− π+ decays in events reconstructed from data collected by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy electron-positron collider. The total integrated luminosity of the data sample, which was collected at center-of-mass energies at or near the ϒ (4 S) resonance, is 207.2 fb− 1. The result, τ (Λ c+)= 203.20±0.89±0.77 fs, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, is the most precise measurement to date and is consistent with previous determinations.

We report on a measurement of the Ω c 0 lifetime using Ω c 0→ Ω− π+ decays reconstructed in e+ e−→ c c data collected by the Belle II experiment and corresponding to 207 fb− 1 of integrated luminosity. The result, τ (Ω c 0)= 243±48 (stat)±11 (syst) fs, agrees with recent measurements indicating that the Ω c 0 is not the shortest-lived weakly decaying charmed baryon.

This paper presents a search for the rare flavor-changing neutral current process B 0→ K* 0 τ+ τ− using data taken with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+ e− collider. The analysis is based on the entire ϒ (4 S) resonance data sample of 711 fb− 1, corresponding to 772× 10 6 B Bpairs. In our search we fully reconstruct the companion B meson produced in the process e+ e−→ ϒ (4 S)→ B Bfrom its hadronic decay modes, and look for the decay B 0→ K* 0 τ+ τ− in the rest of the event. No evidence for a signal is found. We report an upper limit on the branching fraction B (B 0→ K* 0 τ+ τ−)< 3.1× 10− 3 at 90% confidence level. This is the first direct limit on B (B 0→ K* 0 τ+ τ−).
