The FASER experiment at the LHC is designed to search for light, weakly-interacting particles produced in proton-proton collisions at the ATLAS interaction point that travel in the far-forward direction. The first results from a search for dark photons decaying to an electron-positron pair, using a dataset corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 27.0 fb− 1 collected at centre-of-mass energy s= 13.6 TeV in 2022 in LHC Run 3, are presented. No events are seen in an almost background-free analysis, yielding world-leading constraints on dark photons with couplings ϵ∼ 2× 10− 5− 1× 10− 4 and masses∼ 17 MeV− 70 MeV. The analysis is also used to probe the parameter space of a massive gauge boson from a U (1) B− L model, with couplings g B− L∼ 5× 10− 6− 2× 10− 5 and masses∼ 15 MeV− 40 MeV excluded for the first time.

This paper presents the first results of the study of high-energy electron and muon neutrino charged-current interactions in the FASERν emulsion/tungsten detector of the FASER experiment at the LHC. A subset of the FASERν volume, which corresponds to a target mass of 128.6 kg, was exposed to neutrinos from the LHC pp collisions with a centre-of-mass energy of 13.6 TeV and an integrated luminosity of 9.5 fb− 1. Applying stringent selections requiring electrons with reconstructed energy above 200 GeV, four electron neutrino interaction candidate events are observed with an expected background of 0.025+ 0.015− 0.010, leading to a statistical significance of 5.2 σ. This is the first direct observation of electron neutrino interactions at a particle collider. Eight muon neutrino interaction candidate events are also detected, with an expected background of 0.22+ 0.09

In the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model, Flavour Changing Neutral Current (FCNC) is a good research field in terms of the observability at future colliders. Increased Higgs production with higher energy and luminosity in colliders is essential for verification or falsification of our knowledge of physics and predictions, and the search for new physics. Prospective electron-proton collider constituent of the Future Circular Collider project is FCC-eh. It offers great sensitivity due to its high luminosity and low interference. In this work, thq FCNC interaction vertex with off-shell top quark decay at electron-proton colliders is studied. By using [email protected] multi-purpose event generator, observability of tuh and tch couplings are obtained with equal coupling scenario. Upper limit on branching ratio of tree level top quark FCNC decay is determined as 0.012% at FCC-eh with 1 ab^− 1 luminosity.

The associated production of Higgs and bosons via vector-boson fusion (VBF) is highly sensitive to the relative sign of the Higgs boson couplings to and bosons. In this Letter, two searches for this process are presented, using 140 fb of proton-proton collision data at = 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The first search targets scenarios with opposite-sign couplings of the and bosons to the Higgs boson, while the second targets Standard Model-like scenarios with same-sign couplings. Both analyses consider Higgs decays into a pair of -quarks and decays with an electron or muon. The opposite-sign coupling hypothesis is excluded with significance much greater than , and the observed (expected) upper limit set on the cross-section for VBF production is 9.0 (8.7) times the Standard Model value.

Measurements of the differential production cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt and mesons with transverse momenta between 8 and 360 GeV and rapidity in the range are reported. Furthermore, measurements of the non-prompt fractions of and , and the prompt and non-prompt -to- production ratios, are presented. The analysis is performed using 140 fb of  TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during the years 2015–2018.

The ratio of branching ratios of the boson to muons and electrons, , has been measured using 140 fb of collision data at TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC, probing the universality of lepton couplings. The ratio is obtained from measurements of the production cross-section in the , and dilepton final states. To reduce systematic uncertainties, it is normalised by the square root of the corresponding ratio for the boson measured in inclusive and events. By using the precise value of determined from colliders, the ratio is determined to be . The three uncertainties correspond to data statistics, experimental systematics and the external measurement of , giving a total uncertainty of 0.0045, and confirming the Standard Model assumption of lepton flavour universality in -boson decays at the 0.5% level.

A search for pair production of squarks or gluinos decaying via sleptons or weak bosons is reported. The search targets a final state with exactly two leptons with same-sign electric charge or at least three leptons without any charge requirement. The analysed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb− 1 of proton-proton collisions collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. Multiple signal regions are defined, targeting several SUSY simplified models yielding the desired final states. A single control region is used to constrain the normalisation of the WZ+ jets background. No significant excess of events over the Standard Model expectation is observed. The measurement of hard scatterings in proton-nucleus collisions has resulted in a greater understanding of both the proton and nuclear structure. ATLAS measured the centrality dependence of the dijet yield using 165 nb of +Pb data collected at = 8.16 TeV in 2016. The event centrality, which reflects the +Pb impact parameter, is characterized by the total transverse energy registered in the Pb-going side of the forward calorimeter. The central-to-peripheral ratio of the scaled dijet yields, , is evaluated, and the results are presented as a function of variables that reflect the kinematics of the initial hard parton scattering process. The shows a scaling with the Bjorken- of the parton originating from the proton, , while no such trend is observed as a function of . This analysis provides unique input to understanding the role of small proton spatial configurations in +Pb collisions by covering parton momentum fractions from the valence region down to and .

This Letter presents the first study of the energy-dependence of diboson polarization fractions in ????????→ ℓ????ℓ′ ℓ′(ℓ, ℓ′= ????, ????) production. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb− 1 of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector. Two fiducial regions with an enhanced presence of events featuring two longitudinally-polarized bosons are defined. A non-zero fraction of events with two longitudinally-polarized bosons is measured with an observed significance of 5.3 standard deviations in the region with 100< ????????????≤ 200 GeV and 1.6 standard deviations in the region with ???????? ????> 200 GeV, where ???? ???? ???? is the transverse momentum of the ???? boson. This Letter also reports the first study of the Radiation Amplitude Zero effect. Events with two transversely-polarized bosons are analyzed for the Δ???? (ℓ???? ????) and Δ???? (????????) distributions defined respectively as the rapidity difference between the lepton from the ???? boson decay and the ???? boson and the rapidity difference between the ???? boson and the ???? boson. Significant suppression of events near zero is observed in both distributions. Unfolded Δ???? (ℓ???? ????) and Δ???? (????????) distributions are also measured and compared to theoretical predictions.

Statistical combinations of searches for charginos and neutralinos using various decay channels are performed using fb of collision data at TeV with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Searches targeting pure-wino chargino pair production, pure-wino chargino-neutralino production, or higgsino production decaying via Standard Model , , or bosons are combined to extend the mass reach to the produced SUSY particles by 30-100 GeV. The depth of the sensitivity of the original searches is also improved by the combinations, lowering the 95% CL cross-section upper limits by 15%-40%.

Higgsinos with masses near the electroweak scale can solve the hierarchy problem and provide a dark matter candidate, while detecting them at the LHC remains challenging if their mass-splitting is (1 GeV). This Letter presents a novel search for nearly mass-degenerate higgsinos in events with an energetic jet, missing transverse momentum, and a low-momentum track with a significant transverse impact parameter using 140 fb of proton-proton collision data at = 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment. For the first time since LEP, a range of mass-splittings between the lightest charged and neutral higgsinos from 0.3 GeV to 0.9 GeV is excluded at 95% confidence level, with a maximum reach of approximately 170 GeV in the higgsino mass.

This letter reports the observation of W (ℓ ν) γ γ production in proton-proton collisions. This measurement uses the full Run 2 sample of events recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s= 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb− 1. Events with a leptonically-decaying W boson and at least two photons are considered. The background-only hypothesis is rejected with an observed and expected significance of 5.6 standard deviations. The inclusive fiducial production cross section of W (e ν) γ γ and W (μ ν) γ γ events is measured to be σ fid= 13.8±1.1 (stat)+ 2.1− 2.0 (syst)±0.1 (lumi) fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction.

A search for a new heavy boson produced via gluon-fusion in the four-lepton channel with missing transverse momentum or jets is performed. The search uses proton-proton collision data equivalent to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected by the ATLAS detector between 2015 and 2018 at the Large Hadron Collider. This study explores the decays of heavy bosons: and , where is a CP-even boson, is a CP-odd boson, is a CP-even boson, and is considered to decay into invisible particles that are candidates for dark matter. In these processes, and . The boson associated with the heavy scalar boson decays into all decay channels of the boson. The mass range under consideration is 390-1300 (320-1300) GeV for the () boson and 220-1000 GeV for the boson. No significant deviation from the Standard Model backgrounds is observed. The results are interpreted as upper limits at a 95% confidence level on the cross-section times the branching ratio of the heavy resonances.

Semi-visible jets, with a significant contribution to the event's missing transverse momentum, can arise in strongly interacting dark sectors. This results in an event topology where one of the jets can be aligned with the direction of the missing transverse momentum. The first search for semi-visible jets produced via a t-channel mediator exchange is presented. The analysis uses proton-proton collisions with an integrated luminosity of 139 fb−1 and a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected with the ATLAS detector during the Run 2 of the LHC. No excess over Standard Model predictions is observed. Assuming a coupling strength of unity between the mediator, a Standard Model quark and a dark quark, mediator masses up to 2.7 TeV are excluded at the 95% confidence level. Upper limits on the coupling strength are also derived.

Measurements of integrated and differential cross-sections for electroweak production in association with two jets () in proton-proton collisions are presented. The data collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider from to at a centre-of-mass energy of TeV are used, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of fb. The candidate events are reconstructed using leptonic decay modes of the gauge bosons. Events containing three identified leptons, either electrons or muons, and two jets are selected. Processes involving pure electroweak production at Born level are separated from production involving a strong coupling. The measured integrated fiducial cross-section of electroweak production per lepton flavour is $\sigma_{WZjj\mathrm{-EW} \rightarrow \ell^{'} \nu \ell \ell jj} = 0.368 \; \pm 0.037 \,(\mathrm{stat.}) \; \pm 0.059 \,(\mathrm{syst.}) \; \pm 0.003 \,(\mathrm{lumi.}) \; \mathrm{fb}$. Respective cross-sections of electroweak and strong production are measured separately for events with exactly two jets or with more than two jets, and in three bins of the invariant mass of the two jets. The inclusive production cross-section, without separating electroweak and strong production, is also measured to be $\sigma_{WZjj \rightarrow \ell^{'} \nu \ell \ell jj} = 1.462 \; \pm 0.063 \,(\mathrm{stat.}) \; \pm 0.118 \,(\mathrm{syst.}) \; \pm 0.012 \,(\mathrm{lumi.}) \; \mathrm{fb}$, per lepton flavour. Inclusive and differential cross-sections for the production of top quarks in association with a photon are measured with proton-proton collision data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb− 1. The data were collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during Run 2 between 2015 and 2018 at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The measurements are performed in a fiducial volume defined at parton level. Events with exactly one photon, one electron and one muon of opposite sign, and at least two jets, of which at least one is b-tagged, are selected. The fiducial cross-section is measured to be fb. A search for non-resonant Higgs boson pair production, as predicted by the Standard Model, is presented, where one of the Higgs bosons decays via the H→ b b channel and the other via one of the H→ W W⁎/Z Z⁎/τ τ channels. The analysis selection requires events to have at least two b-tagged jets and exactly two leptons (electrons or muons) with opposite electric charge in the final state. Candidate events consistent with Higgs boson pair production are selected using a multi-class neural network discriminant. The analysis uses 139 fb− 1 of pp collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. An observed (expected) upper limit of 1.2 (0.9− 0.3+ 0.4) pb is set on the non-resonant Higgs boson pair production cross-section at 95% confidence level, which is equivalent to 40 (29− 9+ 14) times the value predicted in the Standard Model.

This paper presents the reconstruction of missing transverse momentum () in proton-proton collisions, at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. This is a challenging task involving many detector inputs, combining fully calibrated electrons, muons, photons, hadronically decaying -leptons, hadronic jets, and soft activity from remaining tracks. Possible double counting of momentum is avoided by applying a signal ambiguity resolution procedure which rejects detector inputs that have already been used. Several `working points' are defined with varying stringency of selections, the tightest improving the resolution at high pile-up by up to 30% compared to the loosest. The performance is evaluated using data and Monte Carlo simulation, with an emphasis on understanding the impact of pile-up, primarily using events consistent with leptonic decays. The studies use of data, collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider between 2015 and 2018. The results demonstrate that reconstruction, and its associated significance, are well understood and reliably modelled by simulation. Finally, the systematic uncertainties on the soft component are calculated. After various improvements the scale and resolution uncertainties are reduced by up to 76% and 51%, respectively, compared to the previous calculation at a lower luminosity.

A summary of precision measurements sensitive to electroweak, QCD and quark-flavour effects performed by the ATLAS Collaboration at the Large Hadron Collider is reported. The measurements are predominantly performed on proton-proton () collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV taken from 2015 to 2018, with an integrated luminosity of up to 140 fb, with some results based on and Pb+Pb data recorded at lower nucleon centre-of-mass energies. The results cover a wide range of topics, from strong production of particles at low energies and the spectroscopy of hadrons to perturbative QCD with hadronic jets and electroweak and strong production of single and multiple vector bosons. They provide precise measurements of fundamental constants and stringent tests of the Standard Model with unprecedented precision and in energy ranges never explored before. They are also used to explore the proton structure and to perform model-independent searches for new physics.

The need for large-scale production of highly accurate simulated event samples for the extensive physics programme of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider motivates the development of new simulation techniques. Building on the recent success of deep learning algorithms, variational autoencoders and generative adversarial networks are investigated for modelling the response of the central region of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter to photons of various energies. The properties of synthesised showers are compared with showers from a full detector simulation using geant4. Both variational autoencoders and generative adversarial networks are capable of quickly simulating electromagnetic showers with correct total energies and stochasticity, though the modelling of some shower shape distributions requires more refinement. This feasibility study demonstrates the potential of using such algorithms for ATLAS fast calorimeter simulation in the future and shows a possible way to complement current simulation techniques.
